Ten Commandments of Good Credit:

  1. Shop around for the best credit card terms.
  2. Understand all the terms of your agreement before you accepting the card.
  3. Set a monthly limit for charges and stick to it.
  4. Shop as carefully with credit as you do with cash.
  5. Pay bills promptly and in full to keep finance charges low.
  6. Don't take on monthly credit payments unless you're certain you can meet them.
  7. If you charge day-to-day expenses, pay them in full each month.
  8. Pay yourself first. Save money each payday for emergencies.
  9. Keep credit card information (including phone number of issuer) in a safe place in case your cards are lost or stolen.
  10. Keep copies of sales slips and compare charges when statements arrive. If there is a mistake, call your issuer right away.
